News and views
Firstly I must pay tribute to Digby Gibbs who sadly passed away totally unexpectedly on the 30th May. A good friend and staunch follower of the D Group. He was a recent Chairman of the Triple M Register and previously Bulletin editor for several years. He and his late wife Julia bought D0377 in 2006. No doubt many of you will have seen the obituary in ‘Safety fast’ for August which carries a picture of Digby and Julia in the D. R.I.P Digby.
Forthcoming Event
Don’t forget the Prescott Car Club Day where an informal gathering of Prewar MGs is being held on Sunday 29th September (following the Saturday VSCC Long Course Event).
See Dispatch 83 for further details but we should have our own allotted parking spaces.
The MG D GT from the seventies pictured in the last Dispatch was quickly explained by Huw Davies (D0353) as it is pictured in David Knowles’ book ‘MG The Untold Story’ with detail of where it fits in the development of MG, or not!, within British Leyland.
The inter club meeting back in at Malvern was another damp squib, far too expensive for what was on offer. Pity the meetings at Silverstone have had to stop.
The 2024 European MG Event of the year was in Luxembourg from 1st – 4th August and we were well represented by Vincent Dransart in his D0456 shown here in this super picture on one of the runs.
Our two intrepid racers, Chris Edmunson (D0442) and Onno Konemann (D0495) have had a busy few months with either or both at meetings at Cadwell Park, 15 June, Donnington, 7th July and Oulton Park, 26/28th July. In addition, Onno competed at VSCC Prescott on 3/4th August and is pictured here with a different view of his car, D0495.
I wonder if this is the first appearance of a D actually competing at Prescott? If anyone has any information please let me know.
Also, spotted on Facebook, was this picture of Christopher Poel’s D0352 taken during the VSCC’s Dorset Tour at the end of May just missing our June 1st edition.
Apparently it managed with 2 adults, 3 children and a dog; you can do it in a D Type!
Period pictures are always welcome and I spotted this on Facebook – could it be a D Type? The wings look non-standard or altered for trialling but the registration (GT 2864) is too early for a J?
The car has not survived according to the Triple M Register. I would be pleased to hear from anyone who has any details or ideas!
